Haldir Awards

Haldir fanciers unite!  Non-fanciers, um...Gollum says 'Leave now and never come back!'.

I must admit, I'm beginning to stray from the realm of ThunderCats and into Middle Earth, it might seem.  The last year of D&D and my half-elf persona in the game have seen to that.  Now, I find Tolkien books littered about the apartment more often than I find a ThunderCats comic.  I find that I spend more time speaking to my sisters not about anything we might have spoken of before Two Towers came to the theaters, but about a very haughty elf...and all the websites, art, and fanfiction we find pertaining to him on a day to day basis.  Since it's getting difficult to remember what things we've seen and shared with each other, I've decided to begin handing out awards to those who are singing the praises of he who guards Lothlorien's border.  (Actually, I haven't yet found anyone really, truly singing about Haldir, so websites, fanfics, and fanart will have to do for now.)

There are two types of awards which I've got going right now.  The first is the Golden Mallorn Award.  It is awarded once a month to three different things: a website or online resource, a fanfic, and a piece of fanart.  Sometimes, it won't be awarded for all three, sometimes not at all.  That's just the way it is.  To be awarded, at least two of the three of us have to agree that it should win, which helps out with quality control.

The second are the awards for fanfiction, of which there are three besides the Golden Mallorn Award - The Mallorn Leaf and the Mallorn Twig, which are of my creation, and the Pride of Lothlorien, which is Frick's.

The Mallorn Leaf award is for fanfics that are humorous, namely because they so often do not portray Haldir as the serious and somber Galadrim that he tends to be.  But there are so many in existence, and many have caused me to fall off my chair in fits of laughter, I do think they should be recognized.  The Mallorn Twig is for fanfics that are of the naughty sort, adult in nature, and though I do not yet have a clever name for them as I do with Thundersmut and Pokeporn, I'm positive that I soon shall come up with something that fits.  The Mallorn Leaf and Mallorn Twig awards are given out whenever something that fits the award is found, so that it is possible for many to be given out in a day, or for none to be awarded for years.  Pride of Lothlorien is for dramatic works, and is just awarded when one of us feels the urge to award it.

At the bottom of the page is a form which can be filled out if you wish to nominate yourself, or someone else for one of the awards.  Nominations do not guarantee awards, however, it does increase the chances of winning.  Below are the awards, and the recipients as listed.  If you find something online claiming to have won an award, yet has not been listed here, chances are they know how to copy and paste things from the WWW to their own web pages, and shall be dealt with as needed.  * Motions toward large wooden crate with the words "Fragile - Balrog" written on it. *

The other brothers Lorien are now being represented in their own awards!  Click here for Rumil and here for Orophin.

None of the links here are internal, save the one to go back to the previous page.  So not only will you be traveling away from this site of insanity, but if something isn't working, it's not an error on my end. (Although you may feel free to point out such issues to me, it's not likely I can do much about it.  Be glad for those links which do work, for in these dark times...)

This is a work in progress, and is just beautifully written.  It takes place after Haldir and Legolas have been imprisoned for thirty years, and I'm not going to say anything more than that because words other than the story itself would not do it justice.

Haldir plans to seek revenge against a she-elf named Elienne, but what will be the consequences of such actions?  Romantic Comedy.  The author of this story really went above and beyond the call of duty writing this one, going so far as to send a recording of a song from the story to the list where the story was posted so that members could get the full effect.  It's a long tale, but it's worth it.

A work in progress, but great stories need not be finished to win awards.  Elrond does his best to chase away the evils that plague Haldir in his dreams of a painful past.  That's all I'm saying, so go take a read!

Yet another work in progress as this is awarded, but very entertaining, it just had to be given recognition.  Great if you love music.  I'm not going to try summarizing it, because there's too much going on.  It's a het fic, and the OFC a very memorable character, to say the least.  Merely her battle cry alone makes her unforgettable.  Go read it!

I probably shouldn't admit this, considering this links to my TCat site, but for the last two months, I've been using this picture as the wallpaper on my computer.  Very cute picture.  If this doesn't make you say "awwww", there's a good chance you're an orc.

Entirely finished story, entered in the Haldir Lives contest last month (or was it two months ago?), but did not win that contest.  Time to give it a bit of a boost, it is very well written.  The ofc is a strong character in many ways, the story has a nice rhythm, and even though we can be fairly sure there's a happy ending somewhere in there, the bumps in the road keep the story moving along.  A good lay-in-the-hammock-
sip-a-lemonade summer read.

Although it seems it would be difficult to find an enjoyable story that includes the idea of Haldir dying at Helm's Deep, it is not impossible.  Haldir returns (ala Glorfindel, if you believe the Gondolin and Rivendell Glorfindels are one in the same).  It is a work in progress and there's a great likelihood it will be slashy eventually, but very much worth the read.

A great deal of time was put into this piece, and a great deal of care taken to get the specific details precisely drawn.  The artist has two other pieces up at this time, Legolas and Elrond, which are also fabulous pieces.  Big thanks goes to Jackie Moreland for nominating this piece and to Fireheart for helping us out with Heather's contact info.

In reality, this is a work of fan fiction.  But anyone who puts together a separate little site for a single work of fanfiction, well, it deserves something.

Oh, and it's a good story, too.

This had been planned to be recognized months ago, but the delay had something to do with something we couldn't remember.  Luckily, Elusine Rose sent us a note reminding us that there were "several luscious pix of Haldir and many other elves", and one always pays heed to messages that contain the words 'luscious' and 'Haldir' in the same sentence.  The link will take you to the gallery of elves, which takes a lot less time to load than the individual pieces of art themselves.

It seems as if there are some sites and resources out there with more content, but this place is just too beautifully done to be overlooked.  Take a look at "Leaves of the Galadhrim (or Haldir's Day of Depression and Essential Plot-Angst)" if you don't have time to look at anything else.

These pictures are just awesome.  The colors are what stood out the most, and it is one of the few times all three of us (Maggie, Monty, and I) unanimously agreed on an award recipient.  Take a look at the other Lord of the Rings pictures this artist has done as well.  Dragonfly posted a message about this to the Haldir's Lovers group, which is how we found out about these beauties, so tis Dragonfly who gets the nomination credit.

Kristin brought to our attention a lovely picture drawn by Selphius of Rumil.  However, since we aren't going to start awarding the Rumil or Orophin awards until 2004, and we decided we just couldn't wait to recognize the work of Selphius, take a look at this sketch of Haldir of Lorien.

Anyone who writes 96 chapters of a Haldir fanfic deserves an award.  Heck, they deserve two awards! Slash story, with Haldir and Legolas, deals with male pregnancy - which normally, we tend to pass up, our apologies - but this is actually one Zhie had been following since chapter seven.

He's what ganymede102000
had to tell us about it:

The whole LOTR is awesome, but what keeps me goin are my favourite elves: Haldir Legolas and of course our regal Elrond/Agent Smith!
This fic is is rather long, but you won't find boring passages.Even if the last chapters are rather sappy, what can I say? I loveH/L sapp!

Very well planned and nicely done, this work is long, but definitely worth the read.  Slash between Haldir and Celeborn, but the overall work is not a smut fic.  There are other works in this series, but Heart and Body does well as a stand alone story.  I think I've read this about four times now, that's how good it is, so go take a look at it at least once!

Legolas arrives in Valinor, finding Haldir...but, not really Haldir.  The main character is more Legolas than Haldir in this particular work, but Haldir got enough fic time to merit this award.  There are some tense changes and such that can make things choppy as you read, but read you will, for the fic is fab.  Angsty, and there is plot, but you know you're just going to read it for the slashy smut, aren't you?
