Name:
Panthro
Race: Thunderian [Panther (Which actually means he's
likely either a leopard or a jaguar. Because we had two other prominent
jaguars on the show {Jaga and Jagara}, I tend to go with the idea that he is a
leopard)]
Occupation: ThunderCat Warrior [Panthro is also a skilled
mechanic and engineer. He is creditted with building most of the vehicles,
his favorite being the Thundertank, which he and others refer to as his 'baby'.]

Weapon:
Nunchukas (Nun-Chucks) [Each of the ends of the barrels of his weapon is
fashioned in the shape of a cat head. In each barrel he is able to conceal
substances, usually gaseous, but generally the weapon is used in hand to hand
combat. Panthro also has spikes attached to his shoulder straps that
can extend or can spring out attached to some sort of wires or ropes. They
can be used both as a weapon, or as a defensive measure.

Special
Abilities: Strength superior to all (except, apparently, Lion-o), gives
Panthro bragging rights and access to the title "Panthro the
Great". He is also a skilled martial artist, though it was never very
clear in the cartoon the exact martial art Panthro was a master of. In the
comics, however, the fighting style given is Kottr Kwan Do. Although it was never
mentioned outright, Panthro seemed the most literate of the ThunderCats - he
makes mention of Shakespearian references more than once. Perhaps he was
just interested in the theatre? Perhaps his voice actor was a great
thespian who improved often? Perhaps I should stay on topic and not allow
my judgment of this character by clouded by the fact that he is my favorite and
I that I bow to the talent of Mr. Earle Hyman to bring Panthro to life?
You be the judge.

Love
Interests: Panthro tended to be shy and reserved around the
ladies. In the old days, they would have called this 'being a gentleman',
but on a planet in the middle of nowhere with only one chick of your own race,
it's usually referred to as 'being foolish'. Panthro was seen as the
father figure of the show, and therefore couldn't also play the part of the
dashing young hero. He does seem to have an interest in Cheetara, but he's
never very forward about this. His interest with other females is minimal
to non-existent. Likely cause: The planet blew up, and Panthro isn't what
one would call youthful. Chances are, he lost someone during or prior to
the explosion, and isn't quite ready to move on.

Episodes
of Interest: "Spitting Image" was the first real Panthro-oriented
episode, putting good Panthro against evil Panthro. "ThunderCats,
HO!" and "Mumm-ra Lives!" have some great Panthro scenes in them
as well - and don't forget about "Exodus" and "Lion-o's
Anointment - Trial of Strength".

Catch Phrase & Quotes:
"Thanks {Insert Name Here}, I owe ya one."
-to nearly everyone, at some point in
time, after getting into something he couldn't finish by himself
"Blast this blasted {Insert Name of Vehicle/Tool/Other
Here}!"
-usual 'Thunderian swear' heard
coming from Panthro's mouth
"A time to plan for a rainy day is when the sun is
shining."
-to Lion-o and Cheetara in 'Garden of
Delights'
"We can always replace a Thundertank - no way we can
replace a life."
-to Lion-o, after finding the 'tank
had a baby seaquine pinned beneath it in "Spaceship Beneath the Sands"

Final
Thoughts: Panthro tends to have few online followers - I know
this by being one of the few. (What? You hadn't figured that out
yet? Sheesh, how many clues must I leave?) Yet, at the same time, there are practically
no anti-fans for this ThunderCat mechanic. Reason? Probably the
realism of the character. He was by no means perfect, he banged things
when he was angry, he hated spiders and was afraid of bats, and he had a sense
of humor.
