At Daybreak
I watch him when he walks out of the tent, the gold of his breastplate glimmering in a faint red, like flames are licking his body. Part of me wants to call after him, pleading with him not to go out there, but I am tongue-tied. There's nothing I can offer for argument but vague images of dreams, and these days he refuses to regard them.
Suddenly he hesitates. He turns, holding out his hand. "Let us go out side by side." When I walk up to take my place, I see his eyes glisten. Blue as the sapphire itself.
