Summary: This is a story from Elrond's POV. It is right after the war of the Second Age and Elrond searches for his King.

I stumbled amongst the endless amount of corpses that covered the plant less plains. Orc, Elf and Man. Upon regaining my feet, I searched for those that I held close in my heart and loved, but my search seemed in vain, for that were many corpses, and only a small number were my friends.

I reached down and flipped over a carcass. This was no Elf that I knew. In respect, I put my hand on my breast and prayed for the lost soul.

The air stunk of blood and the foul stench of Orcs, but I paid no attention to this, for I had more important business to look to. Looking up, there was confusion in my heart. When death takes one, where does one end up? I could not answer this question, for elves are immortal. yet we could be slain, or we could die of a broken heart. I was indeed grieved by the loss of many voices that would have sung of this day. I fell to my knees; a great weight was upon my heart.

"It's not fair. " I said to anyone that would listen, or could hear me.

The frozen, shocked faces of Men and Elves made me realize that this would be the Last Alliance of the two kindred, for there will be no strength left in the world of Men. Then, I heard a choke by the gray river of Mordor. It was a small river that had only ended up there by the cause of rain... that began to pour now.

My hope was restored, and I leapt over many bodies and weapons until I found who I was looking for. There was my King, lying on the ground, gasping for air, but his own spear had been stabbed into his heart area. I fought back tears when he looked to me.

I rushed to his side, kneeled, and held onto his hand, rubbing it. "My Lord." was all I could say.

The king was a high elven king known as Gil-Galad. He smiled at me, and gently rubbed my cheek with his other hand. "Elrond. you have grown into a fine leader."

"My King." I replied; voice shaking.

"I shall not ask you to take the throne, Elrond, son of E(rendil, but I ask of you. to lead our people in Imladris to a more respectable life. Lo, Elrond! I can see the white shores. perhaps you shall see them, too, someday. but from a different view." Gil-Galad choked again.

I held his other hand against my cheek. He raised me. he was a father to me. This moment of him departing was too much, much like when I was separated from my dear twin brother Elros Peredhil. I couldn't stand to let this happen again.

"My king. do not leave me in shadow. do not leave me in Darkness and in Doubt." I failed to hold back the tears which were building up within me.

"I shall leave you, Elrond. it was meant to happen. but in darkness? Nay! In Light! For the future will hold many challenges, but you will overcome them. as you shall overcome my passing and move on." then Gil- Galad lay still.

I knelt over him and kissed his brow. I then rested my forehead upon his chest, crying softly, for I had never felt so alone in all the long years of my life.

The Star of Eärendil shone dimly, then brightened, for 'twas not the ending, but the beginning.

The End

Notes: Ending! It's sad, like it's supposed to be! Review please.. I need feedback! And remember no flames! (If you haven't guessed already, Elrond is my favourite character!)
