He waited patiently on the shore. One of the white ships was just pulling up against the docks. Butterflies flew rampantly through his stomach. Would he be there? Would he have come with the rest of them? Not knowing was killing him.
He stood back from the crowd. From his position he could see the passengers as they stepped on the gangplank. He didn't want his vision blocked by some other ellon (m. elf) or elleth (f. elf).
Then he was there. His beloved had changed since last they were together. The aura surrounding him was one of great wisdom and strength. Those eyes, the ones that had haunted his dreams, searched the crowd.
Slowly he stepped forward, the throng parting to make way for him until he stood at the end of the gangplank. Those eyes that had been so sad and weary when he stepped off the ship now blossomed, sparkling like the stars in the sky and reflecting the smile that graced his fine features.
"Gil-galad," he whispered and then rushed into his beloved's arms.
"All my happiness and joy," Gil-galad whispered against his lips. "Was, is and always will be carried in your smile, Elrond nín (my)."
